This Privacy Policy explains how the Device Finder mobile application for iPhone and iPad (the "App") and the devicefinder.app website (the "Website") access, process, use, and handle information. Device Finder helps you locate lost AirPods, earbuds, headphones, Apple Watch, AirTag, speakers, fitness trackers, and other Bluetooth devices nearby. A core principle of Device Finder is that your data stays on your device: Bluetooth scanning, distance scoring, scan history, favorites, custom names, and last-known locations are processed and stored on your iPhone or iPad. Device Finder does not require an account, and it does not upload the devices you scan or your location to servers operated by us. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using Device Finder.
1Privacy at a Glance
Our approach to your information is simple:
- Device Finder works without an account — there is no sign-up, login, or user profile.
- Bluetooth scanning and distance scoring happen on your device.
- Your scan history, favorites, custom device names, and last-known locations are stored only on your device.
- We do not upload the Bluetooth devices you scan, or your location, to our servers.
- We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used, and RevenueCat with Apple to manage purchases.
- We do not sell your personal information, show third-party ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
2Bluetooth Permission
Device Finder needs Bluetooth access to find nearby devices. You control this permission in iOS Settings and can change it at any time.
Finding nearby Bluetooth devices is the core feature of Device Finder, so the App asks for permission to use Bluetooth through Apple's iOS permission system. You can allow or deny this permission, and change it at any time in iOS Settings. Without Bluetooth permission, the App cannot scan for devices and its core features will not work.
3Bluetooth Scanning on Your Device
The App listens for signals that nearby Bluetooth devices broadcast publicly, so it can show them in a list and guide you to the one you're looking for — on your device.
When you scan, Device Finder detects Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices within range of your iPhone or iPad and reads information those devices broadcast publicly, which may include the device's advertised name, a device identifier assigned by iOS, signal strength (RSSI), and other advertised Bluetooth data. The App uses this information to list nearby devices, estimate how close you are with the radar and distance score, sort and filter results, and alert you when a device comes into range.
To help point you in the right direction as you move, the App may also use your device's motion sensors, such as its compass and accelerometer, while you are searching. This motion information is used only in the moment and is not stored or uploaded.
This processing uses Apple's Core Bluetooth and motion frameworks and happens on your device. Device Finder does not upload the list of devices it detects, their names, identifiers, signal readings, or motion information to our servers.
4Location and Map Features
If you allow it, the App uses your location to show on a map where a device was last detected. That location is saved only on your device.
Device Finder's "Find on map" feature can show the last known location of a device, meaning where your iPhone or iPad was when it last detected that device. To do this, the App may ask for permission to use Location Services. Location access is optional: you can deny or change it at any time in iOS Settings, and Bluetooth scanning will continue to work without it.
Last-known locations are stored only on your device. We do not upload your location to our servers, continuously track your movements, or use your location for advertising. Map tiles are displayed using Apple's mapping services, which handle map requests according to Apple's own privacy practices.
5Alerts and Background Tracking
Device Finder can alert you with sounds, vibration, and notifications — for example, when a device comes within range, or when a tracked device appears to be lost or disconnected. Alerts while the App is in the background use iOS notifications and background Bluetooth, which iOS asks you to allow. Alerts are generated on your device. You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings or stop tracking a device in the App at any time.
6Data Stored on Your Device
Your scan history, favorites, custom names, and saved locations live on your device and are removed when you delete the App.
To provide its features, Device Finder stores certain information locally on your device, including your scan history, favorite devices, custom device names, last-known locations, and your App settings and preferences. This information is not uploaded to our servers. Deleting the App removes this locally stored information in accordance with normal iOS behavior. Where your device backups include App data (for example, iCloud or computer backups), that data is handled by Apple according to its own privacy practices.
8Apple In-App Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed through Apple's App Store In-App Purchase system. We do not receive your full credit or debit card number, bank-account information, Apple Account password, or complete Apple payment credentials. Apple handles payment processing according to its own terms and privacy practices.
9RevenueCat
RevenueCat helps manage your Premium access behind the scenes. It only handles purchase-related information — never your scanned devices or location.
Device Finder uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, purchases, Premium entitlements, and related purchase functionality. RevenueCat may process an anonymous or app-specific identifier, purchased product identifiers, App Store transaction information, subscription status and renewal or expiration information, purchase history, entitlement status, receipt or transaction validation information, and limited technical information related to the App or device. We use this to determine Premium status, unlock features, and validate and restore purchases. Device Finder does not send your scanned devices, scan history, or location to RevenueCat.
10Firebase Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to see how the App is used so we can improve it. It does not receive the devices you scan or the locations you save.
Device Finder uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how people use the App and to improve its performance and usability.
Firebase Analytics may process information such as an app-instance identifier, device model and operating-system information, App version, general geographic information derived from IP address, App launches, sessions, screen views, feature interactions, and In-App Purchase events. We use this information for product analytics, reliability, and product improvement.
Device Finder does not provide Firebase Analytics with the Bluetooth devices you scan, their names or identifiers, your scan history, favorites, custom names, or last-known locations. We do not use Firebase Analytics data for cross-app behavioral advertising.
11Technical Information for Online Services
When the App or Website communicates over the internet — for example, to load purchase status or send analytics — our service providers may automatically receive limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the service, such as IP address, device type, iOS version, App version, language or region, request timestamps, and technical error information. We do not combine this information with your Bluetooth or location data, which stays on your device.
12Support Communications
If you contact us by email or through the contact form on our Website, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, subject, and message. When you use the Website contact form, we also record limited technical information about the request — your IP address, device type and name, operating-system name and version, and browser name and version — to respond to you and protect the form against spam and abuse. Please don't send sensitive information in support requests unless necessary. We use this information to respond to your request, investigate problems, provide support, prevent misuse, and comply with applicable legal requirements.
13How We Use Information
Information described in this Privacy Policy may be used to operate Device Finder; scan for and display nearby Bluetooth devices; estimate distance and guide you to a device; show last-known locations on a map; send alerts you have enabled; manage Premium access; validate and restore purchases; protect against fraud and abuse; maintain security; troubleshoot technical problems; provide customer support; comply with applicable laws; and enforce our Terms of Use. Separately, we use Firebase Analytics information to understand how the App is used, measure feature usage, and improve usability, performance, and reliability.
14Information We Do Not Sell
Device Finder does not sell your personal information for monetary compensation. We do not sell or share the Bluetooth devices you scan, your scan history, favorites, custom names, or location information, and we do not use any of it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
15Third-Party Services
A few outside services help run Device Finder — Apple for the App Store, purchases and maps, RevenueCat for purchases, and Firebase for basic usage analytics.
Apple provides App Store distribution, In-App Purchases, subscriptions, Core Bluetooth, Location Services, maps, notifications, and device operating-system functionality, handled according to Apple's own privacy practices.
RevenueCat processes purchase-related information to manage subscriptions and Premium entitlements, as described in the RevenueCat section of this Policy.
Firebase Analytics (Google) is used to understand App usage and improve product performance and usability, as described in the Firebase Analytics section of this Policy.
Hosting providers operate the infrastructure that delivers the Website and stores messages sent through its contact form.
None of these providers receive the Bluetooth devices you scan or your last-known locations from Device Finder.
16Advertising and Tracking
Device Finder does not display third-party advertising and does not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. We do not use your Bluetooth, location, or device data to build advertising profiles. If our advertising or tracking practices materially change, we will update this Privacy Policy and the App's App Store privacy disclosures before those changes take effect.
17Data Retention
Your device data stays on your device until you delete it or the App. Service providers keep only what they need, for as long as their own terms allow.
On-Device Data — scan history, favorites, custom names, last-known locations, and settings remain on your device until you remove them in the App, where available, or delete the App.
Purchase Information — Apple and RevenueCat may process or maintain information necessary to determine Premium status, validate transactions, restore purchases, prevent fraud, and meet legal or accounting obligations.
Analytics Information — Firebase Analytics information is retained according to Google's Firebase Analytics data-retention settings, for the product-analytics purposes described in this Policy.
Support Requests — retained as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, maintain records, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
18Your Privacy Choices
You control Bluetooth, Location, and notification permissions in iOS Settings, and you can remove the App's stored data by deleting the App.
Bluetooth Access — allow or revoke Bluetooth permission at any time in iOS Settings. The App cannot scan for devices without it.
Location Access — optional. Allow, limit, or revoke Location Services for Device Finder in iOS Settings. Without it, map features may be unavailable, but Bluetooth scanning still works.
Notifications — turn alerts on or off in iOS Settings, and stop tracking a device in the App at any time.
Stored Data — remove favorites and saved devices in the App where available, or delete the App to remove all locally stored Device Finder data.
19Subscription Management
Weekly subscriptions are managed through Apple's subscription system. You may manage or cancel a subscription through your Apple Account subscription settings. Deleting Device Finder does not automatically cancel an active subscription. Restoring purchases, including Lifetime Premium Access, is available in the App through Apple's purchase infrastructure.
20Security
Our biggest safeguard is that your Bluetooth and location data never leaves your device in the first place.
We use reasonable technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards designed to protect information processed through Device Finder. Our primary safeguard is data minimization: Bluetooth scanning, scan history, favorites, and last-known locations stay on your device, and Device Finder does not require an account. No electronic transmission or storage system can guarantee absolute security; you should also protect your device and Apple Account with appropriate device-security measures.
21International Processing
Our service providers, including Firebase Analytics and RevenueCat, may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers of personal information.
22Legal Bases for Processing
Where laws such as the EU or UK GDPR apply, our processing may rely on: Consent (for example, granting Bluetooth, Location, or notification permissions, or voluntarily contacting us); Performance of a Contract (providing Premium functionality and purchase entitlements); Legitimate Interests (understanding App usage, preventing fraud, securing the service, debugging, and improving reliability); and Legal Obligations (complying with applicable law or valid legal process).
23Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your information. Most Device Finder data stays on your device, so we don't hold a copy — for anything we do control, contact us.
Depending on where you live, applicable laws may provide rights to request access, correction, or deletion; restrict or object to certain processing; request portability; withdraw consent; or lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. Because Device Finder's Bluetooth and location data is stored only on your device, we do not possess or have access to it. To exercise applicable privacy rights relating to information we control, contact [email protected].
24California Privacy Rights
Where applicable, California residents may have rights regarding personal information, including rights to know, access, correct, or delete certain information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Device Finder does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Privacy requests may be submitted through the contact information below.
25Children's Privacy
Device Finder is a general-audience application and is not specifically designed or directed to children.
We do not knowingly collect or process personal information from children in violation of applicable child-privacy laws. Where applicable law requires the consent or involvement of a parent or legal guardian, the App should be used only with the required parental or guardian authorization.
If we become aware that personal information from a child has been collected in violation of applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete or otherwise handle that information as required by law.
26Devices Belonging to Other People
Scans may pick up other people's Bluetooth devices nearby. That information stays on your device — please use Device Finder only to find your own gear.
Because Bluetooth devices broadcast publicly, a scan may detect devices that belong to other people nearby. Information about those devices is processed only on your device to display scan results and is not uploaded to our servers. Device Finder is intended to help you find devices you own or are authorized to locate. You must not use it to track, monitor, or locate other people or their belongings without their consent, as described in our Terms of Use.
27Changes to This Privacy Policy
Device Finder may evolve over time. We may update this Privacy Policy when features, third-party services, data practices, legal requirements, or privacy and security practices change. When changes are made, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If a material change requires additional consent under applicable law or Apple's requirements, we'll request that consent before beginning the new processing.
